endometrial biopsy nervousness!

I just got the call from my RE's office that my endometrial biopsy is Monday. They want to do one this month, then possibly another next month before December IVF.

To those of you that have had this procedure, How bad is it?

i am not looking forward to this, but I hope it can provide some answers!!!!!

Thanks!

  1. I've never had this done, but ask them if you can take something beforehand! I was so nervous about my HSG that my Dr. gave me some strong pain medication beforehand. Turns out that I really didn't need it. But I was so nervous that it made me feel better!!

  2. I just did one about two weeks ago (I did a post on it) The biopsy didn't feel good but it was a quite 'oh shit' moment then over. My issues came from the cervical stenosis and not letting the catheter pass through easily. I would still recommend taking an 800mg motrin or if you have a prescription drug to relax you, it def wouldn't hurt.

  4. I had one done about a month ago. It was quite uncomfortable at the time - I immediately started sweating from the pain. But once it was done, I felt very little discomfort.

  5. This is probably too late depending on when your appointment is, but I found it pretty painful so I recommend taking a few (maybe three!) advils or tylenol. Probably not what you want to hear, but I wish I had been warned before mine! With that said though, I've heard other girls say it wasn't too bad so HOPEFULLy that's the case with you.

    Good luck xo

  6. Good luck today! I'm hoping the biopsy is quick and painfree. I definitely get myself worked up for these things and I pretty much always am pleasantly surprised. I hope that's the case for you too!

  7. I've had 4 biopsies at this point.

The first one was at the GYN office (pre RE work up) and it was ok. Not great, but ok. The part that hurt the most was sticking the catheter through my cervix.

The second one was at the RE office and this was by far my most painful pre work up procedure. My RE took a really thorough sample and my uterus took a big scraping. It resulted in my lower body shaking afterwards for several minutes. (This was worse for me that the HSG.)

My third and fourth biopsies were recently (in 2011) and were no problem at all. It was a little unpleasant, but nothing compared to the 2nd one.

I would definitely recommend taking painkillers - like 800 mg IB profin - about an hour or two before the procedure. Apart from that, you might feel a little crampy afterwards and then you should be fine.

    Good luck!
